The management of the TSL Sports Complex has inked a one-year deal with D&Q Saipan Co., Ltd, renaming the center section of the facility as the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.”
“We’re very pleased and proud to have this section of the TSL Sports Complex renamed after one of our most popular brands. The Gillette brand is a very active supporter of sports events and athletes around the world, and we found this particular brand a perfect fit to this sports complex,” said Max Kretzers, resident manager of D&Q Saipan Co., Ltd.
The Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium can be used for basketball, badminton, and even futsal games. Early this year, it hosted the basketball playoff games in the Coalition of Private School Sports Association and for about four months, the facility served as the venue for the three divisions matches in the UFO caging. Northern Marianas Badminton Association also used the facility for its clinics and warm-up games.
“We’re very grateful to D&Q for this sponsorship. Since this multipurpose section opened we’ve had numerous basketball leagues take advantage of the facility. On most nights there are basketball, futsal, and badminton games all within the Sports Complex. This financial support from D&Q will help to ensure that the facility will keep up its standards of providing a safe and friendly sporting environment for our community,” Saipan Soccer School president Jerry Tan said.
After the UFO league, the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium will host games in the 3rd Annual Shirley’s Coffee Shop Invitational Basketball League, which will kick off this Sunday.
The opening of the TSL Sports Complex mid this year was timely as the Gilbert. C. Ada Gymnasium, which hosts most basketball competitions on Saipan, closed in May. The Ada Gym has yet to reopen, as rehabilitation and repair works have yet to be completed. (Roselyn B. Monroyo)
