Benavente wins SGA monthly ace

Tony Benavente won the Saipan Golfers Association May 2021 Ace of the Month Tournament held last May 16 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.

He actually tied runner-up Rick Kautz with each golfer registering net scores of 71. Benavente, however, took the plum after beating the latter on a scorecard tiebreak.

Benavente finished with a gross score of 80 built around a front nine score of 43 and a back nine score of 37. Minus his 9 handicap, he came away with a net of 71.

Kautz, for his part, fired an 83 gross score. He started with a 41 in the first nine holes before improving with a 42 in the back nine. Minus his 12 handicap, Kautz arrived with net the score of 71.

Former national CNMI golfer Nick Sablan completed the Top 3 with a net score of 72. He submitted a gross score of 81 after a 43 and a 38 in the front and back nines, respectively, for his net score of 72.

Benavente now joins SGA 2021 Ace of the Month winners Das Krishnan (January), Joe I. Sablan (February), Frances M. Sablan (March), and Kautz (April) for the season-ending SGA Ace of Aces Tournament.

In the closest to the pin competition, Benavente won hole No. 3, Alex Tudela topped hole No. 7, while Mario Fajardo and Tudela again were the victors in holes No. 13 and 17, respectively.

Juan “Pan” Guerrero was without peer in the longest drive in hole No. 2, while Benavente out-clubbed everyone in hole No. 10.

The SGA Ace of the Month Tournament for June 2021 will be held Coral Ocean Point golf course this Sunday, June 27. Tee time is at 10am with a showtime of 9:30am.
