Best Sunshine’s corporate social responsibility team and the Tourist Oriented Policing Section or TOPS partnered to create the largest non-competitive float for the Christmas in the Marianas float parade. The partnership between CSR and TOPS is dedicated to the revival of the Koban project and the float’s design was centered on promoting the return and revamp of the TOPS program.
Rita Chong, BSI corporate social responsibility director, said, “We already have an established partnership in place with TOPS. Together, we are currently working on a project here in Saipan to revitalize the tourist district in western Garapan. As part of our partnership, we made an agreement that for every event taking place in Garapan, we would collaborate with TOPS.”
The CSR team and TOPS participated in multiple activities such as Christmas caroling, decorating the “Christmas Village,” and building the largest non-competitive Christmas float for the annual parade, as well as assisting with the program every Saturday night. A few of the CSR members also assisted TOPS in decorating their lobby for the DPS Decorating Battle, which won them first place.
Members of CSR and TOPS worked alongside each other to organize, plan, and create a float made from recyclable and donated materials. Donated wooden palettes, outdated newspapers, old fabric, and toys were turned into Christmas embellishments as the float slowly came together.
“We’ve established partnerships in the past, but nothing has met the caliber as big as this,” said Sgt. Jeff Olopai, commander of the DPS Criminal Bureau of Investigations. “We are thankful that Best Sunshine’s CSR team has been helpful and we look forward to working with them on future plans.”
Chong responds, “They’re really fun to work with. They are highly professional people, and great role models for my staff. These people help keep our neighborhoods safe and free from criminals. We are coming from two different worlds in regards to profession, but we have meshed really well together because we share the same vision with regard to the tourist district. Our two organizations have established a close friendship and you really see that positive interaction when we get together to work on a project. It has been a pleasure working with them.”
