  1. So was this an emergency landing or a “crash” landing, there is a big difference. The way ir sounds it was an emergency landing.

  2. From the looks of the aircraft, this is NOT a “crash landing” The plane is in one piece with no damage due to landing on the golf course.
This is an “Emergency Landing”. (or forced landing) Under FAA guidelines. This is not such an unusual occurrence elsewhere where there is many more small planes flying around. It is almost a daily occurrence in USA news around the mainland, In Hawaii past there is usually at least one each year, sometimes more. BUT yes in the CNMI and Guam it is NOT usual.

This plane’s wings will be removed and the plane towed on the highway by a tow bar (or put on a trailer) and brought back to the airport for repair for the original mechanical problem along with the pilot and the company required to fill out much paperwork and undergo investigation concerning mechanical records etc. (Been there done that)
It is fortunate that this incident did not result in injury and/or death as other actual crash incidents involving this carrier has.

CRASH LANDING; To land (an aircraft), under circumstances in which a normal landing is impossible, in such a way that DAMAGE to the aircraft is UNAVOIDABLE. verb (used without object) to crash-land an aircraft. … crash-landing, noun.

CRASH LANDING “to land (an airplane or spacecraft) under emergency conditions usually with damage to the craft “(Marian Webster)

EMERGENCY OR FORCED LANDING – is when the aircraft is forced to make a landing due to technical problems. Landing as soon as possible is a priority, no matter where, since a major system failure has occurred or is imminent. It is caused by the failure of or damage to vital systems such as engines, hydraulics, or landing gear, and so a landing must be attempted where a runway is needed but none is available. The pilot is essentially trying to get the aircraft on the ground in a way which minimizes the possibility of injury or death to the people aboard. This means that the forced landing may even occur when the aircraft is still flyable, in order to prevent a crash or ditching situation.
