Students of Eucon International School and Agape Christian School will represent the CNMI in the Mathleague National Elementary Competition in Houston, Texas in June.
The students earned their spot on the team after finishing in the top four in last month’s Math Court state competition.
Eucon’s Joanah Jimenez won gold, and Agape’s Anderson Zunag, Victoria Ancheta, and Silas Xu followed.
Alternates, from fifth to sixth place, were Saipan International School’s Cevina Hwang, Golden Harvest International School’s John Labadan, and Agape’s Tychius Xu and Kevin Tang.
For the team competition, Eucon won gold, Whispering Palms School won silver, and Agape won bronze.
In order to maintain their spot, national members need to attend weekly practices, as well as turn in all documentation for travel, according to CNMI Mathcourt administrator Reo Arriola.
If a member of a team cannot attend for any reason, due to paperwork or absences during practice sessions, for example, the alternate who attends the most practice session is offered a spot on the team, he said.
The second annual National Elementary Championship will be held in Houston on June 6, 2015.
