Eucon valedictorian aims to be doctor

OBADIAH CHANG Principal’s Award

Eucon University’s high school graduation last Friday saw 10 students of the Class of 2017 moving on to pursue higher education.

Lenard Marcial, who led the class as the recipient of the president’s award, which is Eucon’s equivalent of a valedictorian, said he wants to be a missionary doctor one day.

“I plan to take a couple of classes here in Eucon to further my spiritual excellence before going on to the U.S. to pursue pre-medicine and hopefully become a missionary doctor,” he said.

Marcial plans to take his first semester in Eucon before visiting relatives in the Philippines and finally attending classes at Pensacola Christian College in Florida.

Following Marcial in ranking was Betty Zhang. Zhang, recipient of the dean’s award, which is Eucon’s equivalent of a salutatorian, plans to finish a business degree from Arkansas’ Ouachita Baptist University.

“It is an excellent business school, so I decided to go there,” said Zhang.

Zhang wishes to get a master’s degree but she is still undecided as to where she plans to get it.

At Eucon, a third award known as the principal’s award goes to the most improved student. Recipient Obadiah Chang has no particular choice on where he wants to go to college.

Chang said he wished to become a missionary and plans to achieve it by taking up a Bible major at Florida’s Pensacola Christian College.

Chang is also interested in Eucon’s master’s degree in theology.

  1. I’ve never heard of these colleges. The Eucon students seem to be limited to religious colleges after graduation. Is this correct? Is there a problem with accreditation? Why do they not get into Stanford or Harvard? Some of the local Saipan public school students have even done that–with a free public education. Sounds a little fishy.

  2. It seems that these families have money to be able to go to the US mainland to school. The local “donations” to the college fund for students is minuscule compared to actual US College semester costss
It is so bad that we lose all of our best minds and are left with the recycled proven failures voted back in each cycle by families and friends.
This instead of having competent “new” faces” to choose from.
THEN in the cases of “new” faces getting elected many get frustrated and do not seek another term as they are hindered in any of their attempts for real accomplishments to help the people
