MJD Construction went all out in the fourth quarter to rout TanHoldings 2/CTSI, 102-86, in the lone game played in the 2018 JP World Corp. Customer Appreciation Basketball League last Saturday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
MJD Construction and TanHoldings 2/CTSI ended the third period in a deadlock, 64-all, but the former stepped on the pedal in the final canto to pull away and take a 16-point winning margin.
Mico Usi and Bernard Montano teamed up in the early part of the fourth quarter to give MJD cushion, while Melvin Sahagun delivered the killer blows. Sahagun, who was scoreless in the first three frames, made MJD’s last 13 points, including three straight triples. Usi added 8 points, 6 of them came from downtown, while Montano had one trey and 9 points in the pivotal fourth frame. Freddie Pelisamen and J.R. Castillo contributed 4 points apiece to complete MJD’s fourth-quarter domination.
Usi top-scored for the winning squad with his 24 points, while Pelisamen and Montano also finished in twin digits with 23 and 19, respectively.
Lawrence Deleon Guerrero had 31 to pace TanHoldings 2/CTSI, as his impressive 3-point shooting kept the team in the game in the first three quarters.
Deleon Guerrero made 6 points in the first frame, which ended with MJD ahead by only 4, 20-16. The former Marianas High School standout then exploded for 17 markers in the second period and wrapped up their first-half scoring by making three consecutive triples to keep TanHoldings 2/CTSI afloat, 43-46.
Deleon Guerrero continued to hit his target in the third period and also drew help from Ariel Jinang in that quarter to bring the match back to square one.
However, after keeping up with MJD in the first three cantos, TanHoldings 2/CTSI lost steam in the fourth with Deleon Guerrero held to 3 points.
