Guam backs Kilili’s measure to lift Medicaid cap for territories
Guam Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero issued the following statement regarding Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan’s measure to lift the Medicaid cap for U.S. territories:
“COVID-19 is forcing every American to acknowledge the inequities of our national health care policy. This is why we worked with the White House, the U.S. Senate, and [Guam Delegate] Michael San Nicolas to avoid the Medicaid cliff in 2019 and secure reduced match rates going forward. I commend [Delegate Gregorio] Kilili [C.] Sablan for reintroducing his measure and for the profound benefit it will bring to the people of the territories.
“Disease doesn’t care which part of the nation you live in and neither should federal law. As Americans, we all benefit from federal health care policy that helps those with the greatest economic need and without arbitrary limitations.
“This is why I support [Delegate] Sablan’s measure as a first step. It is why I am thankful to his cosponsors and to President-elect Biden for his prior public support.” (PR)
