Guam EPA is awarded $300K
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the Guam Environmental Protection Agency $300,000 in federal grant assistance to support water-quality monitoring at Guam beaches.
Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo announced the awarding of the grant, saying she strongly supports these federal EPA funds, which will help to strengthen monitoring, notification, and make all results readily available to the public.
“Our beaches and ocean are an important part of everyday life on Guam and attract visitors from the across the globe. They support our local fishermen, recreation for our residents and visitors alike, and are the key economic driver for our tourism industry,” said Bordallo. “I continue to champion ocean and coastline conservation legislation in Congress, and I am pleased that U.S. EPA is providing much-needed federal funding to Guam for water-quality monitoring and data collection at our beaches. This federal-local partnership is critical to keeping our people safe and informed about conditions at our beaches and favorite swimming spots.” (PR)
