Saipan business celebrates grand opening of new Guam location
The Guam Visitors Bureau announced yesterday the newest member of the Håfa Adai Pledge familia. Mariana Ocean took the pledge to perpetuate and keep alive Guam’s Håfa Adai spirit by using natural and local products when available.
By using natural and local ingredients in their handmade soaps, hand creams and lip butters, Mariana Ocean embodies living the Håfa Adai Pledge.
Mariana Ocean made its debut as the one and only cosmetic brand on Saipan at the Mariana Resort & Spa. Yesterday, they celebrated their newest Guam location with a Håfa Adai Pledge signing and ribbon cutting ceremony at The Plaza.
Gloria Cavanagh, executive vice president of Kan Pacific Saipan, Ltd., shared why taking the pledge was so important to Mariana Ocean, “In 2013, Yoshihiro Kitami, president of Kan Pacific Saipan, Ltd., wanted to share the beauty of the Marianas through a locally made product that represented beauty and healing powers. Kitami-san was enlightened by the local traditional healing process used by our local siruhana or siruhanu. The practice and use of traditional medicine is one that the local people still have in existence in which local plants and floras are processed for oral and external medicines, to include beautification of the skin and hair care by using such plants as coconut and papaya.” The Håfa Adai Pledge signing concluded with a special ribbon cutting ceremony and a soap making demonstration in their store.
The Håfa Adai Pledge
The Håfa Adai Pledge program is the cornerstone of the Guam Visitors Bureau’s local community branding campaign. In its seventh year, the Håfa Adai Pledge program has grown steadily in the number of participants as well as the commitment of individual pledges. In March of 2016, GVB reached a significant milestone, welcoming its 600th pledge, representing more than 33, 000 individuals from private businesses, government agencies, non-profits and other organizations that have joined the Håfa Adai Pledge program.
