The Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands donated $5,000 in typhoon relief supplies at the Rota Recovery Drive last Sept. 15 on Saipan. Rota was hit by Category 2 Typhoon Mangkhut last week, prompting a presidential declaration of emergency.
HANMI’s donation of food, household and cleaning products, and more were delivered to Garapan Fishing Base on Saturday morning, where HANMI chair Gloria Cavanagh expressed her support for the community effort to help the neighboring island recover.
“It’s really beautiful to see the many citizens and businesses of Saipan come together to aid our brothers and sisters in Rota. This sense of community is one the qualities that makes the Marianas a wonderful place to live,” said Cavanagh. “Donating to Rota was a really easy decision for our board of directors, and we are extremely grateful to D&Q Distributors, Marpac, and Triple J Ent. for giving us discounts and excellent pricing on the luncheon meat and other food, toilet paper, detergent, shovels and brooms, and other items we sent.”
The community donations were loaded into two shipping containers and will be distributed by the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter on Rota.
“We would also like to thank all our sponsors and supporters of our annual HANMI Charity Classic Golf Tournament. They can all take pride in helping to make aid possible for Rota,” Cavanagh added.
HANMI was established in 1985 as a professional forum for the hospitality industry of the Marianas. HANMI also makes regular charitable donations to support non-profit organizations and tourism-related government projects. (HANMI)
