Hocog signs Tinian appropriations bill

Acting governor Victor Hocog on Wednesday signed into law a Tinian local bill to appropriate $365,000 allotted to Tinian from the Saipan casino law for the Office of the Mayor of Tinian and other local programs.

The $245,000 is intended to “supplement the shortfall in revenue supporting locally funded personnel and operations” of the Tinian Mayor’s Office and the Tinian municipal treasurer, “provided that up to $12,000 of the funds appropriated shall be used to maintain the Tinian Public Cemetery.”

The $80,000 is marked “for the lump sum payment of annual leave of local employees of the Tinian municipality that have separated from government service but did not receive a lump sum payment for their annual leave.”

The remaining $40,000 is budgeted “to defray operational costs of the Tinian and Aguiguan Legislative Delegation.”

The Tinian mayor is the expenditure authority of the $245,000 and $80,000 appropriations and the chairman of the Tinian delegation is the expenditure authority of the $40,000 appropriation.

With Hocog’s signature, House Local Bill 19-65, D1 becomes Tinian Local Law 19-13.

The bill was authored by Rep. Edwin Aldan (Ind-Tinian).
