‘Ice’ trafficking case dropped

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho dismissed without prejudice the charges against John Richard Palacios Deleon Guerrero, who was arrested by authorities last week for alleged trafficking of methamphetamine or “ice.”

Camacho dismissed the case against Deleon Guerrero yesterday after Chief Prosecutor Leonardo Rapadas moved to dismiss the charges “in the interest of justice.” He did not state a reason for the motion to drop the case.

Dismissed without prejudice means the government can re-open the case in the future.

Rapadas filed the motion yesterday, the day of the scheduled preliminary hearing in the case against Deleon Guerrero.

Police officer Peter Raymond Camacho stated in his report that a “cooperating source” was able to buy $220 worth of “ice” from Deleon Guerrero in the parking lot of U-Luck Poker in Gualo Rai last April 16.

Deleon Guerrero was among the seven persons arrested in connection with Department of Public Safety Commissioner James C. Deleon Guerrero’s war against “ice” in the CNMI.

  1. Sounds like the CBI didn’t do their job properly when obtaining the arrest warrant and Rapadas doesn’t want to be embarrassed in court. Time to build the case stronger to put Deleon Guerrero back behind bars. Let us hope they have enough….

  2. Maybe the “evidence” went missing due to family within DPS. OR other untimely non conformation of the law.
The “co-operating source” recanted his testimony due to threats against his life etc. Pick any number of reasons.
But best this way so that the case can be refiled later, hopefully within the defendant’s life time. Why is this not surprising.
Two released due to not being charged within the time limit, now this one. How many more will be released?
There were seven now there are four.
