Congratulations to the senior students of Northern Marianas College’s School of Education, who recently marked a major milestone of their educational journey in the SOE “Passing of the Torch” ceremony. The SOE seniors, who will be graduating with their bachelor degrees on May 19, 2018, also passed on guidance and advice to the incoming SOE cohort of 2019. The tri-partnership meeting was with Board of Education chair Maria Lourdes S. Ada and vice chair Janice Marie A. VFW REACHES OUT TO TINIAN VETERANS
On May 11, 2018, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3457 on Saipan reached out to their fellow veterans on Tinian for the first time. The VFW members donated service flags, flags of each military branch, buddy poppies, and a special award for the Tinian Junior/Senior High School JROTC. The buddy poppies that are made by disabled veterans nationwide are worn during Memorial Day to honor the fallen. The VFW is a non-profit organization that provides assistance and support to service members, veterans and their families. FLOOD ADVISORY-Two young tourists avoid the flooded side of the road as they walk along Beach Road corner Taibwo Street in Garapan yesterday afternoon. The CNMI Emergency Operations Center-State Warning Point issued an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Saipan yesterday after information received from the National Weather Service in Guam indicated continuous heavy rain and thunderstorms, with areas of standing water. It warned of minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. (Ferdie de la Torre)
SAIPAN-JAPAN FLIGHTS-Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Skymark Airlines president Masahiko Ichie are joined by MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion, Commonwealth Ports Authority executive director Christopher Tenorio, members of the MVA and CPA boards, and staff after a lunch meeting on Friday. Torres and Skymark Airlines officially agreed to launch direct flights between the CNMI and Japan during the upcoming winter schedule. Skymark Airlines is Japan’s third largest carrier headquartered at Haneda Airport in Tokyo and will be the first Japan-based carrier in the CNMI since 2005, when Japan Airlines closed its Saipan office.
