Jang Gun Restaurant literally means general in Korean and has been one of the top-ranked Korean restaurants on Saipan in the past 15 years.

Last July, Jang Gun Restaurant relocated to a more prominent location along Coral Tree Avenue in front of Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan.

To celebrate the move, the restaurant introduced a Korean lunch buffet. Aside from its famous home-made kimchi, Jang Gun Restaurant’s smorgasbord includes more than four meat dishes like deji bulgogi, barbecue ribs, and pork curry and restaurant staples like fish roe, jajangmyeon, spicy squid, fried chicken, Korean pancakes, and kimchi fried rice.

On occasion it also serves Korean versions of spaghetti, pancit (stir-fried noodles), and lumpia. The buffet also includes desserts— fruit salad and fresh fruits—as well as miso and corn soup, and iced tea.

Chief executive officer Chan Seck Hong said this is the first time Jang Gun Restaurant has offered a buffet lunch as the move to a bigger and more accessible location allowed them to finally introduce the eat-all-you-can option.

“At the old location we just didn’t have space for a buffet. I’m very happy that we can finally offer this at our new location here along Coral Tree Avenue,” he said. The site is the old Sunshine Café location.

Hong assured that Jang Gun Restaurant does not use monosodium glutamate in any of its dishes.

The lunch buffet has so far been a successful, with over 50 customers every day, majority of them walk-in tourists with a good mix of office and government workers.

The Korean buffets costs only $12 per person and is from 11:30am to 1:30pm, Monday-Sunday.

“We’ve long been the No. 1 Korean restaurant on Saipan and with our move to a new location we hope to continue this tradition,” Hong said.

Jang Gun Restaurant comfortably sits 95 customers, with semi-private accommodations for 35. It also has a private room for 10-14 people.

An extensive ala carte menu is also available and starts at 10am. Jang Gun Restaurant is also open to reservations for birthday parties and gives away a free cake for the birthday celebrant.
