Former senator and Cabinet member Ramon S. “Kumoi” DLGuerrero, another key supporter of the Juan N. Babauta and Juan S. Torres gubernatorial challengers, gathered supporters, family and friends together at Guerrero’s residence to express anger over the defection of Babauta and Torres team to Inos/Torres and to formally endorse the Hofschneider/Yumul team.
“The Babauta-Torres team did not have the courtesy to inform us of their decision. They jumped because it was good for them,” said Guerrero. “Not even a ‘thank you’ after all we’ve done for his campaign.”
Guerrero, speaking in front of a crowd of former Babauta-Torres supporters, family and friends, said: “As a group we decided that we must work together to support the Hofschneider-Yumul team.”
“That $635,” Guerrero said, “take it but vote the way you think you should. And if Gov. Inos really wanted to help the people, he could have issued an executive order to lower the rates because he controls all aspects of the CUC by emergency declaration.”
Guerrero expressed concern, too, over the 40-year casino license saying, “It was too fast and there is too little for the people. Forty years from now, most of us will not be here and it is important that we get this right for our children and grandchildren.”
Heinz S. Hofschneider, who was in attendance at the function said, “I’m here tonight not only with a happy heart, but a humbled heart. I know all of you have worked hard already on behalf of the BT team and thank you all for continuing your campaign for change, not on behalf of Ray and I, but the Commonwealth.”
