Lady Eagles continue conquest in softball

After a pause last weekend due to rainy weather, the Sunday softball games of the 2022 Budweiser Belau Amateur Softball Association League resumed once again at the Dandan Softball Field, with the Lady Eagles also resuming their conquest on the field, dampening the Tokahao Ladies’ run, 12-2, during the otherwise dry and hot day.

The game was off to a slow start, as both teams were just getting their bats tarred up and their kinks straightened out after a week of no games, with the Tokahao Ladies coming up empty in the first inning.

The Lady Eagles, however, shook off the cobwebs and made a three-run first inning, courtesy of Emy Oiterong, Glare Mabel, and Bel Igitol, for a lead of 3-0.

In the second inning, only Rosie Saralu was able to fare against Lady Eagles pitcher, Felisa Brel, to put Tokahao Ladies up by one run.

The only other run permitted by Brel was to Annalyn Olupomar in the third inning and that was the extent of Tokahao’s effort against the Lady Eagles.

Four runs. however, were not enough for the Lady Eagles as they continued a barrage of runs and hits in the last inning, scoring in eight runs. Oiterong, Igitol, Keina Rogopes, Brel, Jay Taitano, Ikelau Teliu, and Verlyn Secharmidal contributed to the Lady Eagles’ conquest.

The Tokahao Ladies were then shut down in the last two innings and lost in a run-ruled fifth inning game, as they could not generate more runs, with the final score of 12-2.

The Lady Eagles are in the top tier of the standings with five wins and three losses, while the Tokahao Ladies fall further into the dugout with just one win out of eight games.

Queen of Diamonds, 5
Kosebakl Ladies, 4

The other women’s division game of the day was a close one between Queen of Diamonds and Kosebakl Ladies, with the former winning by one run, 5-4.

The Queens of Diamonds are currently ranked No. 1 in the leaderboard with this being their seventh win and just one loss. Kosebakl Ladies are at four wins and five losses.

The Queens won their game in the prior weeks and rode on their reign of terror into this game, with a clutch last inning run by Thelma Mizer, to secure their win by one run, 5-4. The majority of runs for the Queens came in the sixth inning, with three runs batted in by Kiana Aldan, Sylvina Simram, and Destiny Pangelinan.

Kosebakl Ladies scored one run in the first inning, two runs in the second inning, and one run in the third inning, when they were in the lead until the last inning comeback by the Queens.

The men’s teams also had their day of games as the weather held up and their results will be posted in the next editions of Saipan Tribune.
