Lease signing for divert airfield postponed
The scheduled signing of a lease agreement between the Commonwealth Ports Authority and the U.S. government for the U.S. Department of Defense’s plan to put up a landing site—a divert airfield—for the U.S. Air Force on Tinian did not push through last Wednesday because of Super Typhoon Yutu’s destruction on Tinian and Saipan.
CPA executive director Christopher S. Tenorio said the signing has been postponed. “We don’t know yet about the date,” Tenorio said.
He said the CPA’s joint committee meeting set for last Monday was also canceled.
The signing of the lease agreement was supposed to be held at the Tinian International Airport’s new departure terminal.
The joint committee meeting was also supposed to be held on Tinian last Monday.
