Man allegedly stole car parts from the police impound lot

A police sergeant arrested Friday night an intoxicated man who allegedly stole some parts from vehicles that are parked at the Department of Public Safety’s impound lot in Susupe.

Edward Jay Norita, 34, was taken to Superior Court yesterday for burglary. Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $1,000 cash bail for Norita.

Chief Public Defender Douglas Hartig appeared as counsel for Norita.

Police detective Catherine B. Pangelinan stated in her report that, on Friday at 6:11pm, Sgt. Elden Dela Cruz reported a theft in progress at the DPS impound lot. When a police officer responded, he saw that Dela Cruz had already apprehended Norita south of Marianas Business Plaza.

Preliminary investigation showed that while Dela Cruz was in front of DPS Evidence and Property Accountability and Control Section south of the DPS building, he saw Norita taking out several parts from the parked vehicles in the impound lot.

Norita also allegedly tried but failed to open one of the government vehicles. When Dela Cruz called out the suspect, the latter picked up all the parts and threw them into the jungle area southwest of the impound lot.

Norita then walked away, prompting Dela Cruz to follow and stop him south of Marianas Business Plaza.

One of the items recovered was a vehicle alternator.

  1. This is interesting as it is usually the police, (and the police mechanic) other Govt. employees and cops relatives that do the stealing of parts from the impound yard on Tinian. Also from the various dept. yards such as DPW, CUC and other broken equipment.
Oh! but by the last name this guy is a relative of one or more cops so no difference.

  2. What is happening to our island chain? The police themselves were being victimized by our criminals. We hope that our island chain will not turn into one of the hoods in the United States, where it is a no man’s land and the authorities are afraid to exercise their authority.

Such bold action towards our law enforcement properties is disturbing. What next?
