Man gets 72-hour prison term for beating up sister

A 29-year-old man was sentenced to a 72-hour prison term for slapping and punching his sister in the face on Saipan.

Andrew Pangelinan pleaded guilty on Tuesday to assault and battery involving domestic violence.

Superior Court Presiding Judge Robert C. Naraja sentenced Pangelinan to one-year imprisonment, all suspended except for 72 hours.

Pangelinan was given credit for 18 hours of time served. He was ordered to start serving his sentence on Feb. 24, 2017; he shall be released on Feb. 27.

After his release, Pangelinan will be placed on supervised probation for a year. He was required to pay a $500 fine and $25 in court assessment fee, perform 100 hours of community service, and attend alcohol counseling and batterer’s intervention. He is barred from alcoholic beverages and any illegal substances during his probation.

Pangelinan slapped and punched his sister in the face on April 17, 2016.
