The House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee canceled their meeting that was originally scheduled last Thursday, during which they were supposed to discuss Gov. Ralph DLG Torres’ proposed budget for the government’s operations for fiscal year 2023.
Committee chair Rep. Donald M. Manglona (Ind-Rota) told Saipan Tribune Wednesday last week that he decided last Tuesday to cancel the meeting because they are awaiting the House concurrent resolution, which is in the Senate. Manglona was referring to House Concurrent Resolution 22-21, which he introduced and the full House subsequently adopted last April.
House Concurrent Resolution 22-2 agrees with the $101.35-million projected revenue that Torres had identified as available for government appropriation in his fiscal year 2023 initial budget submission on April 1, 2022. Torres’ revised proposed budget for fiscal year 2023 increased the net budgetary resources from $101.35 million to $104.35 million.
The amount in the governor’s budget submission is part of the $150.41 million in gross budgetary resources projected for fiscal year 2023. Fiscal year 2023 starts on Oct. 1, 2022.
Manglona earlier informed committee members on Tuesday that they will be meeting on Thursday in the House chamber to act on the budget.
