Majority of Head Start and Early Head Start are scheduled to resume classes today.
“The majority of Head Start [double session] classes start [today],” Public School System Early Head Start and Head Start program director Lathania Santos told Saipan Tribune yesterday.
According to Santos, double sessions for the Chalan Kanoa Head Start center rooms B and C, Dandan Head Start, San Antonio Head Start, and Oleai Head Start centers would start their double sessions today.
Half-day sessions for Chalan Kanoa Head Start classes for rooms A and D started yesterday from 7:30am to 11:30am, while double sessions for the Kagman Head Start and Joaquina M. Rabauliman Head Start room C proceeded with their double sessions yesterday, along with half-day sessions for Chalan Kanoa Headstart classes for rooms A and D.
Only JMR rooms A and B along with Tanapag Head Start rooms A and B resumed full day sessions yesterday.
Early Head Start full-day sessions for Chalan Kanoa, Tanapag, Kagman, and Dandan continued yesterday as well.
“We are excited to have our kids back,” Santos told Saipan Tribune, adding that she believes families are equally excited to have their children back in school since Super Typhoon Yutu in late October.
“…At some point we need to get back to normalcy,” she said. “It was a successful first day for classes that [resumed] today.”
Santos explained that the Head Start and early Head Start centers did not open last Dec. 3, due to logistical issues. She noted that simple necessities for the comfort of the students were not readily available last week, so it was decided to put off opening the classes until yesterday, when stable water, power, and shelter was assured.
