Sunjoon Tenorio scored a hat trick to power MP United Football Club to a 4-0 victory over Matansa in the boys U17 division of the 2017 NMIFA Youth Spring League last Saturday at the Hopwood Junior High School Field.
Tenorio registered two of his three goals in the opening half with the first one recorded in the 23rd minute and the second in the 38th. He made it three in a row in the 59th minute, while Alex Park closed out for MP United in less than two minutes before the 80-minute match concluded.
The win was the third in as many games for MP United putting the squad in a tie for first place with idle TanHoldings FC. Matansa is at the bottom of the team standings with its 0-0-3 win-draw-loss mark.
Kanoa FC is at solo second place in the five-squad field after improving to a 2-0-2 slate following its 2-1 triumph over Paire FC in the other match in the division last weekend.
Ian Karl Maniago knocked in the game-winning goal for Kanoa in the 74th minute, while Sebastien Manabat scored first in the 33th minute of the close match. Jether Yobech nailed the lone goal for the winless Paire in the 43rd.
Shirley’s 5, Paire 2
Shirley’s gained its second straight victory after topping Paire in the curtain-raiser in the division last Saturday at the Koblerville Elementary School Field.
Romel Mendoza and Brandon Tenorio teamed up in giving Shirley’s another victory with the former firing three goals and the latter adding two. Mendoza registered the hat trick right in the first half, as he hit the board in the fifth minute, 17th, and 32nd. Tenorio finished what Mendoza started by scoring in the 51st and 66th minute for Shirley’s, which barged into the win column late last month after beating Kanoa and making up for a 0-2 start. With its 2-0-2 record, Shirley’s moved up to solo third place in the team standings behind MP United (3-1-0) and Matansa (2-1-1), while Paire is at the cellar with its 0-1-3 mark.
Matansa 2, Kanoa FC 0
Matansa retained the second spot in the team standings after beating Kanoa.
Razeff Altamirano and Lolobeyong Benito scored for Matansa with the former finding the back of the net in the 10th minute and the latter in the 39th.
With Kanoa failing to hit the board and absorbing its second straight loss, the team fell to fifth place with its 1-1-2 mark.
MP United 2, TanHoldings 2
In the final game last week, MP United averted an impending loss after rallying past TanHoldings and forcing a draw.
MP United posted two goals in the last 10 minutes of the game to avoid getting its first defeat this season, while TanHoldings had its second draw at the early stage of the competition.
TanHoldings held a 2-0 lead off Aloyzeus Angeles and Taka Borja’s goals in the 16th and 47th minute, respectively. However, the team failed to hang on to the driver’s seat when Daniele Colombo put MP United on the board in the 61st minute and Rohan Basnet nailed the equalizer four minutes before the 70-minute matched wrapped up.
