Navy to conduct training in CNMI

Aircraft of the U.S. Navy’s Carrier Air Wing 17 will conduct training near Saipan and Tinian on Nov. 5 to 6.

During the exercise, F/A-18 fighter jets will operate within a radius of 20 nautical miles around Saipan, including occasional island overflights.

Following the guidelines of the Federal Aviation Administration, pilots will maintain a minimum altitude of 15,000 feet and operate between 2pm and 11:59pm.

Additionally, MH-60 helicopters will conduct search and rescue training on Tinian’s North Field during the same hours of operation. This training will include periodic fueling stops at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport.

CVW-17 consists of nine squadrons of various types of aircraft and is assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.

The USS Theodore Roosevelt is a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, the largest class of carrier in the world. Named after the 26th President of the United States, the USS Theodore Roosevelt is also known as “The Big Stick” and is one of 10 Nimitz-class carriers serving the U.S. Navy. (PR)
