New law allots $151K for pending Precinct 1 projects
A House local bill re-appropriating Precinct 1 fund balances totaling over $151,000 for other pending projects in the community has now been enacted into law.
Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider (R-Tinian), in his capacity as acting governor, recently signed into law House Local Bill 22-32 into Saipan Local Law 22-12. It was authored by Rep. Angel A. Demapan (R-Saipan), Joseph A.Flores (Ind-Saipan), and Joseph Lee Pan T. Guerrero (R-Saipan).
The bill was introduced on April 27, 2022 and passed by the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation last June 3.
The bill re-appropriates $1,016 and $12 allotted under Saipan Local Law 19-2; $16,000 allotted under Saipan Local Law 19-24; $13,173 allotted under Saipan Local Law 20-04; and $42,059 and $79,171 allotted under Saipan Local Law 20-26. This brings the re-appropriated funds to a combined total of $151,431.
Of that amount, $55,232 will supplement funds to mitigate flooding at the intersection of Tun Thomas Sablan Road and Batto PI.
The remaining $96,199 is for the construction, renovation, and/or repair of speed bumps, bus shelters, restrooms, basketball courts, and the installation of street lights and traffic signage within Precinct 1 on Saipan.
The Department of Public Works is the expenditure authority of the $151,431.
The funding came from revenues collected from the poker fees and exclusive gaming annual license fees allotted to Saipan.
