A red pickup truck caught fire on the side of the road in San Vicente yesterday but no one was hurt in the incident.

Saipan Tribune learned that the owner pulled over to the side of the road once the vehicle starting giving off black smoke and fled the vehicle once the vehicle caught fire.

Department of Public Safety officers were called to the scene and they directed traffic in the area while waiting for Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services firefighters to extinguish the flames.

Videos of the vehicle being on fire on the side of the street later surfaced on social media and messaging applications yesterday.

DFEMS spokesperson Derek Gersonde said the cause of the fire is still under investigation and the origin of the fire was in the vehicle’s engine compartment.

DPS spokesperson Adrian Pangelinan added that the vehicle was not involved in any collision prior to it catching fire. Pangelinan said the driver sustained no injuries and that DPS is investigating the scene with DFEMS.

In other news, two separate car collisions happened on Middle Road on Wednesday, the first being a collision between two pickup trucks, with the first sustaining notable damage on its bumper and the other receiving minimal damage.

The second was a two-car sedan collision Wednesday night, with one of the sedan’s rear bumper being damaged. Saipan Tribune learned that no injuries were reported and all were evaluated by DFEMS responders.
