Jess Ramon won the Marianas Golf Association July Ace of the Month Tournament after firing a net 64 at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort west course last July. 11.

Ramon shot a 44 in the first nine holes before going berserk in the last nine holes with a 41 to end up with a gross of 85, which minus his 21 handicap, gave him the July win.

He actually tied with youth golfer Joshua Atalig, as both wound up with identical net scores of 64. Ramon, however, was named the July ace winner as Atalig already won the monthly plum last May.

Atalig still won the top purse though of $275 by virtue of beating Ramon in a tiebreaker in the last nine holes. The son of CNMI national golfer J.J. Atalig came away with a 42 in the front nine and 40 in the back nine for a gross of 82, which minus his 18 handicap, gave him a net 64. Ramon settled for the runner-up purse of $150.

Ten-handicapper Nate Camacho claimed third place with his net 65 built around a 38 in the first nine holes and 37 in the last nine holes for a gross score of 75. He went home with $100 in his pocket.

In the closet to the pin competition, Joe “Kamikaze” Camacho clubbed it in hole No. 3, while Bill Camacho was without peer in hole No. 7. Holes No. 13 and 17, meanwhile, belonged to Mel Sablan and Nate Camacho, respectively. Each of them were $190 richer for their feats.

A total of 41 golfers took part in the MGA July Ace of the Month Tournament.

MGA holds its monthly aces once a month circulating through the four current golf courses and are always inviting interested golfers to join the MGA club. All interested participants need to do is reach out to a current MGA member for details. MGA’s golf season runs from May 2021 through April 2022.
