Rip currents expected until Monday
The public is being warned that a high risk for rip currents is expected through Monday afternoon
Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, dangerous rip currents are present along east facing reefs of Guam, Saipan, Tinian, and Rota through Monday afternoon.
Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Residents of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota are advised to avoid venturing out along east facing reefs. Strong rip currents will be life-threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don’t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. (PR)
