Rip currents seen until Sunday night

The public is being warned of dangerous rip currents along east facing reefs of the Marianas through Sunday night.

Based on the information received from the National Weather Service in Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center’s State Warning Point, there is a high risk of rip currents through late Sunday night on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota.

Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

The CNMI Emergency Operations Center is reminding the public to avoid venturing out toward east facing reefs. Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, swim in a direction following the shoreline until you are out of the current, then head in to shore. (PR)
