RNV Construction defeated IT&E Dark, 75-71, in their make-up game in the 2019 One Pacific Promotional Basketball League last Tuesday at the Civic Center Court.

The win gave RNV a 4-2 record, keeping its playoff hopes alive, as the team moved up to No. 6 spot in the team standings. IT&E Dark fell to a 4-6 mark, dropping to No. 8 in the rankings. The Top 8 squads (out of the 12 teams) after the round-robin elimination will move into the playoffs

Ronald Rueda scored 21 points for RNV, including a clutch triple that helped his team regain the lead, 71-69. Andy Mortos and Ariel Baul added one field goal apiece to seal the deal for RNV. Mortos finished with 16 points, while Baul had 7, 5 of them came in the fourth quarter where IT&E Dark threatened to steal the victory from RNV.

The fourth period started with RNV hanging on to a 55-51 lead, which IT&E Dark overhauled after making four triples in the final canto. IT&E grabbed the upper hand, 69-68, but its stay on the driver’s seat was short-lived, as Rueda came to RNV’s rescue.

Rueda managed to top-score for RNV despite making only one basket in the first quarter that ended with his squad ahead by only a deuce, 15-13. Rueda then added 5 in the second period, which belonged to Mortos, as the RNV forward drilled 9 points to increase their lead to 6 at halftime, 39-33.

RNV went on to keep its advantage in the third with Rueda scoring 9 of their last 12 points in the penultimate frame.
