Saipan Little League Baseball president Mike Borja is calling on all managers and coaches fielding teams in the upcoming season to attend a meeting at 9am on Dec. 9, Saturday, at the pavilion behind the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
Borja said he called the meeting to determine how many teams would take part in the 2018 season that is tentatively set to open on Feb. 3.
“This meeting aims to know how many teams will be competing this season. This would help us in planning the season and setting the schedule of games,” Borja told Saipan Tribune in a telephone interview.
Borja added that the SLLB would introduce the Minors division for the 8 to 9 year-olds, while the Majors is for kids ages 10 to 12. The Juniors is for 13 to 14 year olds, while the Seniors is for the 15 to 16 age group. Games will be held every Saturdays and Sundays.
The Falcons are the defending champions in the Seniors and Juniors, while the Braves are the reigning titlists in the Majors. The NSA Braves squeezed out a 7-6 decision against the Falcons to win the Majors division, while the Falcons clinched their third straight Junior division title with an 8-2 win over the Comets. The Falcons’ Seniors division squad completed a back-to-back with a 4-3 edging of the Enforcers.
Meanwhile, Joining Borja on the SLLB board are vice president A.J. Murig, secretary Malcolm Omar, treasurer Annie Flores, and players agent Piding Tenorio.
