Schools register for Christmas tree decoration contest
Several schools have signed up to participate in the 11th Christmas Tree Decoration Contest hosted by the Marianas Visitors Authority and the Paseo de Marianas Promoters, Inc.
The contest, which will start on Nov. 30, would involve decorating Christmas trees at the Paseo de Marianas using recycled materials. About 16 schools will take part in this annual event.
According to PDM coordinator Sonia G. Siwa, the contest includes middle school participants.
The competition is part of MVA’s 15th Annual Christmas Celebration in the Marianas, a tourist attraction that would be held on the first three Saturdays of December (Dec. 3, 10, and 17) and the last two Fridays (Dec. 23 and 30) from 5pm to 10pm.
The last two Saturdays of December is Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, which is why it was moved to Friday. It would also be the time when the competition winners will be announced.
The last day for schools to register for the contest is today, Nov. 15.
Christmas tree decoration starts on Nov. 30. The Christmas trees would be decorated with recyclable material and will be displayed at Paseo de Marianas throughout the month starting on Dec. 3, along with the annual Christmas caroling competition.
Schools that have signified their intention to join are Mount Carmel School, Northern Marianas International School, Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School, William S. Reyes Elementary School, Dandan Middle School, Green Meadow School, Oleai Elementary School, Saipan International School, Garapan Elementary School, Hopwood Middle School, Agape Christian School, Grace Christian Academy, Koblerville Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School, Tanapag Middle School, and Kagman Elementary School.
Programs for the month of December include a skit competition, a Parade of Floats, and a costume show.
The Mochitsuki Festival, a Japanese New Year’s tradition, would be held in December.
