Senator asks bank to restore ATM at Rota airport

Sen. Paul A. Manglona (Ind-Rota) has asked Bank of Guam to restore its automated teller machine service at the Rota airport in Sinapalo to augment the only existing ATM located at the far end of the island in Songsong.

Many years back, there was an ATM located at the Benjamin T. Manglona International Airport but was removed and had not been restored.

Manglona, in a letter to Bank of Guam vice president/regional manager Marcy Tomokane, said a majority of people that reside in Sinapalo “must drive more than 10 miles to Songsong Village in order to withdraw funds from their respective accounts.”

“Given the price of fuel, this continues to burden the community who are already struggling with the rising costs in commodities and utilities throughout the island,” Manglona said in a one-page Aug. 8 letter.

The senator said that restoring ATM service at the airport in Sinapalo “will greatly lessen the burden on the residents of Rota, as well as accommodating all visitors and tourists coming to the island.”
