SNILD appropriates $1M to Saipan precincts

The Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation passed last Friday a bill that appropriates $1 million to numerous entities and projects across the five precincts on Saipan.

House Local Bill 20-36 S1 will benefit 23 entities and projects across Saipan.

The Saipan Mayor’s Office will get the largest share of the bunch, being appropriated $220,000 for the purchase of a new tractor/boom mower.

The Northern Marianas Protection & Advocacy Systems Inc. received $80,000; the Commonwealth zoning board received $75,000 for “their enforcement personnel and operation”; and $50,000 each will go to the Carolinian Affairs Office, Micronesian Legal Services Corp., and the Latte Training Academy.

A total of $34,000 was appropriated to the Department of Finance, Division of Procurement and Supply for the purchase of a new vehicle; $25,000 each was appropriated to the Civil Service Commission, the CNMI Drug Court for the purchase of a new vehicle, the Commonwealth Women’s Association for renovation, and the Department of Labor for the procurement of a vehicle; $20,000 each was appropriated to the CNMI Salvation Army and the Department of Commerce.

The expenditure authorities for about half of the appropriations are the Secretary of Finance, while the other half is the Secretary of the Department of Public Works.

H.L.B. 20-36 S1 now goes to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres for signing.
