Tinian has new resident department heads

Tinian has new resident department heads who will run eight government agencies on the island.

According to Tinian Mayor Joey Patrick San Nicolas, the new department heads include Juan Santos for the Department of Public Safety, Melissa Aquiningoc for the Department of Finance, Susan Cruz for the Department of Commerce, Joel Untalan for the Department of Public Works, Guillermo Borja for the Department of Land and Natural Resources, Bonnie Borja for the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, and Jay San Nicolas for the Department of Labor.

Mayor San Nicolas said he made the appointments, which were then transmitted to the chairman of the Tinian Municipal Council and “they had 30 days to hear and decide on nomination.”

“I am confident that they are going to do a fine job in their respective departments and their performance will be evaluated within three months from now. I will be working closely with the Tinian Municipal Council and they will also be given the performance review of the new resident department heads,” San Nicolas said.

When asked why he chose them, he said it is because of their experience and qualifications.

“I based my decision on their experience and qualifications and I’d also like to thank the council for the confirmation of nominees, the Tinian Legislative Delegation, and people of Tinian for their support,” he said.

  1. Buenas Mayor San Nicolas,

Thank you for listening to your constituents’ concern relating to the appointment of your department heads. We would give you the benefit of the doubt to better our people within the Second Senatorial District. We had confidence on you from the beginning and we would give you are full support. On behalf of our families and friends in the United State, we congratulate you for being the victor of the CNMI 2014 General Election.

On a different note, may you please let our lone CNMI House of Representative member to be receptive to his constituents. We tried calling his office many times to congratulate him and he never did return our phone calls. At times, we would like to speak to the individuals who represent us from the Second Senatorial District. We don’t make calls to ask for money, but we are trying to fulfill our organization’s bylaws by communicating with our elected representatives from our perspective senatorial districts (quarterly).

Once again, congratulation and we are counting on your leadership for the betterment of our people.

    Si Yu’us Ma’ase

    1. Buenas Captain,

When we saw or heard the list for the departments heads after the past general election, we were infuriated. An appointment of an ex-con would be sending a message that corruption is tolerate and we don’t want any part of it. At least no ex-con were actually being appointed and we are happy with such arrangement. We can’t have everything we want in our lives and to compromise was a good start.
