MANGILAO, Guam—The University of Guam Endowment Foundation and the U.S. Department of Agriculture will be signing documents in a loan closing ceremony today, Dec. 5, in the Student Services Center rotunda on the University of Guam campus to close a $21.7 million loan, which will be used to build the university’s newest buildings: a 70,000 sq. ft. Student Services Center and a two-level 16,000 sq. ft. School of Engineering Building.

According to university president Dr. Robert Underwood, these buildings will considerably improve campus facilities.

“Both buildings meet the growing needs of our students and the community,” said Underwood. “The new Student Services Center will provide students with more efficient access to services and will improve their experience at UOG.”

Underwood added, “The School of Engineering is a game changer for the island. It will not only help meet the increasing demand for local engineering expertise, but it will help keep some of our brightest and highest-performing students here in Guam and contributing to our island’s growth.”

UOGEF executive director Janiece Sablan says through this project, the foundation is fulfilling its mission to support UOG and its students.

“The new Student Services Center will truly enhance the student experience,” said Sablan. “It will feature a new, multi-level Triton Store, food court, a one-stop office for all student services, a student resource center, and a beautiful view of Pago Bay.”

Sablan anticipates construction to begin in early 2017.

The last major construction to take place on the UOG campus was in 2006, when the Jesus S. and Eugenia A. Leon Guerrero Business and Public Administration Building was completed. The new buildings are a part of the university’s Vision 2025 Physical Master Plan to build the 21st Century Campus.

The University of Guam Endowment Foundation Inc. is a 501c3 non profit that was founded on the vision that through community support and involvement, the University of Guam will provide local and regional students with the best education and tools to excel in a global economy.
