The CNMI Zoning Board has approved Island Apparel’s application for conditional use permit to relocate its business from Puerto Rico to Koblerville, an area zoned as village commercial.

Zoning Board chair Diego C. Blanco, treasurer Mariano Taitano, secretary Joe Ayuyu Jr., and member Patrick Reyes unanimously approved the application during a board meeting Thursday night at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.

Zoning administrator Therese Ogumoro said their staff has already reviewed the application of UMDA Wholesale/Retail Inc., which owns Island Apparel, and found the application acceptable. She recommended approving the application if some conditions are met. That includes ensuring that its operation does not generate noise, odor, light, and dust that will affect the neighborhood. Island Apparel is also required to improve its parking area and designate clearly marked parking stalls in front of its establishment which conforms to parking requirements. Island Apparel must also clean and landscape the property.

Island Apparel is proposing to occupy an existing one-story building in Koblerville to make apparel.

Rep. Joseph “Lee Pan” Guerrero (R-Saipan), who supported the project, pointed out that UMDA has been doing good business in the CNMI for many years now. He thanked Island Apparel for choosing to renovate that building.
