2024 Rocball matches start

Saipan’s own copyrighted sport of Rocball and trademarked as Rocball began its fifth decade of annual games at Marianas High School last Jan 5.

There are 10 teams in competition to win Marianas High School’s signature sport. The teams registered to play for the year 2024 are the Nesian Power, Chagii Fahn, Topshakaz, Border Control, Spicey Locals, Bolley Ballerz, Rizzlers, Quest, Aces, and Baddie Z.

In the first round of competition, there were five games played: Nesian Power defeated Chagii Fahn in two sets, 35-25. Topshakaz failed to “juice-out” in the final set and lost to Baddie-Z in a sudden death overtime set, 7-5.

The Aces defeated Border Control, 56-18; Quest won their game against the Spicey Locals 38-30; and Team Balley Ballerz defeated the Rizzlers, 44-16.

In the first five games of Round 1, there were 77 2- point aces, eight 2-point xunks, seven 2-point backcourt scoring plays completed by a team’s goalie, and 15 3-point goals scored. As of yet, none of the players from any team were able to spike down a served ball to score a 1-point jam.

The team that scored the most 2-point aces and 3-point goals were the Bolley Ballerz, Team Border Control scored the most backcourt points with three kees, and team Quest scored the most xunks on three serves.

There are nine rounds of competition and teams will be eliminated after their third loss. The Top 4 teams will move into the semifinals after the regular season of games is completed. Rocball games are scheduled between 12pm and 12:30pm Tuesday through Friday at the MHS Gym. (PR)
