MBA students reap honors in Mathcounts State Competition

The 7th annual CNMI Mathcounts State Competition for 6th, 7th and 8th graders was held last March 24 at the Saipan Grand Hotel. The top ten individuals hailed from six schools.

The 7th annual CNMI Mathcounts State Competition for 6th, 7th and 8th graders was held last March 24 at the Saipan Grand Hotel. The top ten individuals hailed from six schools.

The top individual was by Faye Yu, the second place finisher was Jung Mun Chung, and third place finisher was Vidhya Venugopal all from Marianas Baptist Academy (MBA). The fourth place went to Jong Heun Yang of Calvary Christian Academy (CCA).

These 4 students will represent the CNMI to the National Competition in Washington DC in May.

The remaining top ten individual students are fifth place finisher Keith Cruz of Mount Carmel School (MCS), 6th was Byung Hwang of Saipan Community School (SCS), 7th Emmanuel Borja of MCS, 8th place was John Tabora of Hopwood Junior High School, 9th was Michael Williams of MBA and 10th place was Alvin David of Grace Christian Academy.

The top overall team for the seventh year in a row was Marianas Baptist Academy “A” Team. The remaining top five teams were Mount Carmel School “A” Team, Grace Christian Academy “A” Team, Saipan Community School “A” Team, and Mount Carmel School “B” Team.

CNMI Mathcounts is administered by EFC Engineers & Architects with the support of the US National Society of Professional Engineers.
