Yankees continue winning ways
Those greedy Yankees, they don’t want to share first place with anybody, and they proved it as they D-clawed the D9ers, 11-2 Friday night in continuation of Saipan Major League baseball action at Francisco M. Palacios baseball field.
With this win, the Yankees remain alone in first place atop the Saipan Major League, a full game ahead of the second place Brewers. The pin stripers have managed to maintain their one game lead on the Brew crew, matching them win for win over the last three weeks.
They started early in this one, scoring a run in the second inning. The Yanks added four more in the third, two in the sixth, and another four runs for good luck in the eighth. They could’ve just stopped in the third, because that’s all of the runs that they would need.
The D9ers managed only two runs, both of which came in the fourth inning when two Tenorios tallied. The painfully slow season for the 0-8 D9ers is almost over. Niner-time is only a pair of games against the Pirates and another Yankees match-up away from putting an end to their disappointing season.
The scoring got started in the second when Johnty Jones doubled to lead off the inning. Two batters later, George Castro singled him home, and just like that the Yankees were on the board.
In the third the Yankees poured it on like gravy. Clifton Silil led off the inning with a walk, followed by a Johnson Jones double, then a Robert Bansil walk, followed by a Mel Sakisat double. Johnty Jones picked up the scraps with a base hit, and it was in the bag for the Yankees, up 5-0.
The D9ers answered with a pair of runs, as Manny and Larry Tenorio were able to find their way home. They were the only two of the D’s that could, and the 5-2 score at the bottom of the fourth would be as close as it would get.
The Yankees crew added two in the sixth from newly inserted Chris Camacho and Jesse Jones to up their total lead to 7-2.
In the eighth, the Bronx bombers dropped four more on the Nine to make it 11-2. Camacho would score again, followed by Jim Reyes, Jesse Jones and Silil.
SML action continues Wednesday night, May 26, as the D9ers try it again, squaring off against the Pirates this time, at the Francisco M. Palacios field. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
