Apatang resubmits Johnson’s nomination to NMTI board

Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang has resubmitted the nomination of businessman Roland Johnson as a member of the Northern Marianas Technical Institute’s board of trustees.

If confirmed by the Senate, Johnson will represent Saipan/businesses and serve the remaining four years of a previously vacant four-year term that’s expiring on March 11, 2027.

Apatang, as then-acting governor last week, informed Senate President Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) that he and Gov. Arnold I. Palacios are confident that Johnson’s leadership will execute the mandates of the board in the administration of NMTI.

Apatang said they look forward to working collaboratively with the NMTI board to accomplish the administration’s goals and objectives in developing the Commonwealth’s career, trades, and technical training programs.

Apatang initially withdrew Johnson’s nomination last Nov. 1 since the Senate did not have ample time to act on his nomination. He, however, stated that he will resubmit the nomination at a later time.

The Senate Executive Appointments and Government Investigations Committee, which is chaired by Sen. Celina R. Babauta (D-Saipan), set yesterday the confirmation hearing for Johnson this Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 2pm.

Babauta also set the confirmation hearing for Marvin Deleon Guerrero and Catherine Marie Attao this Tuesday at 10:30am and 2pm, respectively.

DeLeon Guerrero was nominated to serve as a member of the board of directors for the Marianas Visitors Authority, representing Saipan and Northern Islands.

Attao was nominated to serve as a member of the board of trustees for NMTI, representing Saipan, Northern Islands, and women.
