Parole board receives 50 applicants in FY ’23
The CNMI Board of Parole’s community-centric report for fiscal year 2023 states that a total of 50 inmates have sought early release and only a little over 20 were deemed eligible.
According to the board’s community-centric report, which is an annual requirement submitted to the Office of the Public Auditor, a total of 50 inmates applied for parole in fiscal year 2023, but only 21 were found eligible while 29 were found ineligible.
In addition, the Parole Board recommended clemency or pardon for 12 convicts out of the 19 that applied.
The Parole Board shared in its report that one of the biggest successes it has accomplished is maintaining the needs for parolees who are still undergoing rehabilitation and counseling.
“The Board of Parole Office successfully [helped gain] employment for 84% of our parolees with the help of NMTech and private businesses. With the help of NAP Office, the parole officers had directed parolees that are in need of assistance to gain access to the benefits of the NAP program,” the report said
With the help and acknowledgment of the Legislature, the Parole Board also received additional equipment for community work services and rendered assistance to public schools, including Kagman High School, William S. Reyes Elementary School, Tanapag Middle School, and Koblerville Middle School.
Lastly, in fiscal year 2023, the Parole Office welcomed three new board members; Anthony Macaranas, Christopher Leon Guerrero, and Richard Barcinas
