Apatang withdraws nomination of Johnson

Lt. Gov. David M. Apatang, in his capacity as acting governor, withdrew Wednesday the nomination of businessman Roland Johnson to serve on the board of trustees of the Northern Marianas Technical Institute.

Apatang informed Senate President Edith E. DeLeon Guerrero (D-Saipan) that since the Senate did not have ample time to act on Johnson’s nomination, he is withdrawing the nomination at this time and that he will resubmit Johnson’s nomination at a later date.

Gov. Arnold I. Palacios re-submitted last Aug. 7 Johnson’s nomination to serve a four-year term on the NMTI board of trustees, representing Saipan and Northern Islands.

Last July 18, Sen. Celina R. Babauta (D-Saipan), who chairs the Senate Executive Appointments and Government Investigations, canceled the scheduled confirmation hearing for Johnson, Valeria M. Atalig, and Antonio B. Cabrera, due to a lack of quorum.

The Senate had already confirmed the appointment of Atalig and Cabrera to serve on the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors and Commonwealth Ports Authority board of directors, respectively.
