Batallones, Cepeda are Aug., Sept. winners

Rene Batallones and Patrick Cepeda won the latest two monthly tournaments of the Saipan Golfers Association.

Batallones topped the SGA 2024 September Ace of the Month Tournament last Sept. 29 at the LaoLao Bay Golf & resort’s east course by virtue of his net 74. The 14-handicapper fired a gross score of 88 following a 46-42 in the front and back nine.

Das Krishnan and Alex Tudela fared better with net scores of 71 (39-43, 82) and 73 (42-43, 85), but were ineligible for they’ve already won earlier in the year.

In the closest to the pin competition, Joe I. Sablan ruled hole No. 4, while Tony Reyes was without peer in hole No. 6. Jung Eun Teack then took the cake in hole No. 15.

Teack and Freddie Cataluna then brought the lumber in holes No. 3 and 18 to win the longest drive.

Meanwhile, Cepeda outright won the SGA 2024 August Ace of the Month Tournament after firing a net 73 last Aug. 25 at the LaoLao Bay Golf & resort’s west course.

The 18-handicapper carded a 45 and 46 in the first nine and last nine holes for a gross of 91. Larry Guerrero finished second with his net 74 (45-45, gross 90), while Ed Manibusan completed the Top 3 with his net 75 built around a gross of 84 (41- 43).

In the closest to the pin, Jung Eun Teack ruled hole No. 4. Ditto for Frances Sablan and Manibusan for holes No. 7 and 13, respectively. In the longest drive, Rick Kautz won hole No. 2, while Tony Deleon Guerrero followed in hole No. 18.

With the win, September champion Batallones and August champion Cepeda now join 2024 Ace of the Month winners Larry Deleon Guerrero (January), Alex Tudela (February), Nick Sablan (March), Das Krishnan (April), Joe I. Sablan (May), Freddie Cataluna (June), and Jung Eun Teack (July). (Saipan Tribune)
