DPS mum on passing of former commissioner
Former Department of Public Safety commissioner Robert Guerrero reportedly passed away last Monday evening due to natural causes. However, DPS has yet to issue a statement in honor of the former commissioner.
Guerrero reportedly passed away due to health complications. He was survived by his wife and children.
Guerrero served as DPS commissioner from 2016 until 2022.
However, when Saipan Tribune attempted to get a statement from DPS, the department stated that they have no comments at this time.
Saipan Tribune also tried to get a comment from Gov. Arnold I. Palacios regarding the passing of Guerrero but he too had no comments as of press time.
Meanwhile, Saipan Tribune got a statement from former governor Ralph DLG Torres who stated that he is saddened by the loss of another CNMI leader.
“Upon learning of the passing of Mr. Robert Guerrero, I extend my condolences to his wife, Terry, and his children. His loss fills us with deep sadness. Mr. Guerrero dedicated eight years to serving our Commonwealth and its citizens as the commissioner of the Department of Public Safety. He championed police officers’ benefits, salaries, and improved workplace conditions, uplifting those in the department and reinforcing the vital support needed for our frontline protectors,” he said.
Torres stated despite the struggle of handling a department like DPS, Guerrero was a good leader.
“The Department of Public Safety is one of the most challenging departments, and I was fortunate to have him lead during my time in office. As we reflect on Mr. Guerrero’s significant contributions, we remember him not just as a commissioner but as a friend and a devoted public servant committed to making our Commonwealth a safer place for all,” he said.
