PSS first to advance to gov’t/biz caging finals

The Public School System crushed Marpac, 73-63, in the 2023 R&J Wine and Liquor Inter-Government Business League last Tuesday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium to seal their place in the finals.

With both teams undefeated up to that point in the playoffs, their respective supporters were highly anticipating a good game, and PSS came in hot and in just the first quarter put their mark on the board, 22-12. Marpac tried to catch up but attempts weren’t as successful as hoped with the second quarter ending with them under a 15-point hole, 40-25.

The third quarter ended with more promise as Marpac kicked it up a notch and moved that 15-point divide down to just 6 points, 47-53.

Marpac lost steam in the final 10 minutes though and at the end of the game, it was PSS winning by 10 points.

Mii Tekopua led PSS with 18 markers, while Preston Basa supported him ably with 15 points of his own. Coby Santos led Marpac’s losing cause with 25 points, while Jeff Castro added 20 of his own.

Marpac got a second crack of a finals berth when it squared off against Priority Care last night. Results will be published in Monday’s issue of Saipan Tribune.
