DOL website puts people at risk for ID theft

Recently I read that a couple of government websites in Guam had been hacked into. Hacking of websites, both private and government, is becoming a somewhat routine occurrence. Which brings me to the question of why the CNMI Department of Labor requires applicants to enter their Social Security number when submitting a résumé on the JVA website? (https://marianaslabor.net/employee_reg.asp)

I would think that a simple question such as “Are you legally eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship” would be more appropriate to ask rather than put someone at risk for identity theft, even though the website states, “Your SSN will be encrypted and will only be displayed for authorized Department of Labor staff.” If a Social Security number is necessary for some type of federal auditing compliance or other reason, it would be just as easy to ask for the information in person once a match between a JVA and a candidate is made.
