Fat and sassy

I am proud of my country and being a U.S. citizen. Several other locals are not though they pretend to be. Do I believe the U.S. military should be allowed training facilities on Tinian and Pagan? Absolutely, within reason. Why? Those fat and sassy can’t/will never see the big picture: to protect their behinds by establishing a defensive shield against Red China’s moves to dominate the oceans around us. Meaning?

China has falsely stated its historic ownership to the thousand square miles of the South China Sea and in the Spratly Islands it’s currently dredging from sea bottom coral to construct hundreds of hectares of new land on once reefs and shoals for specific military purposes. Adjoining Asian nations, of course, with like ownership claims are contesting China’s bullying actions. The potential for war is all too real. Our U.S. military has upped its presence there. China also attempted to cower Japan last year by establishing a no-fly-shoot-you-down zone over the East China Sea. Our U.S. military immediately tested China by flying over and sailing through the zone. So far no missiles have been launched—yet. And let’s not forget communist Russia swiped Crimea from Ukraine and is now attempting to annex all of eastern Ukraine by military force. Russia’s Pacific naval base is at Vladivostok a couple thousand miles north of the Marianas. A one-two threat too close for comfort. What I’ve pointed out here the F&S are blithering blind not to see.

Here’s some questions for the fat & sassy: why hasn’t China stolen (both) the SCS and shot down our airplanes over the ECS? Why hasn’t Red China launched an attack against the Marianas and the western coast of the USA? Answer: the U.S. military’s presence in Hawaii, Guam, South Korea, Japan, Philippines, Australia. They need more bases to strengthen its ability to respond in event of any and all hostile attack(s).

I bring to mind the Marianas Variety, July 3, 2015 edition, open letter by Tinian mayor Joey San Nicolas. The first half of his opinion, steeped in ideology and cleverly couched in political mug-wumping, implied loyalty to America. The second half spoke to his true belief: fat and sassy. Too comfortable with living under the U.S. flag, he stated: “DOD’s proposed plans is a bad policy and will have a long-lasting detrimental effect on the lives of the people of the CNMI.” He knows nothing. Guam, Hawaii, and every other country with U.S. bases have survived and prospered on the military’s dime. F&S Joey wants “detrimental” as in Armageddon? Take to the hills. Without the protection of the U.S. military Joey won’t have time to take back his words after one rocket or missile or .50 caliber bullets shreds him and his.

  1. Is there a Lee Anderson in Saipan or is this an online alias? This letter is fanatical and ignorant. China is a top trading partner as essential to the US economy as we are to theirs. China has no military plan against the US other than self defense. China doesn’t culturally prefer hastily prepared wars, they beat you with numbers, economics, and patience or time. Such blubber could harm our visa waiver status and that won’t help anyone here

  2. And, in my opinion, the best ancestral claim for those shoals is by China, who had by far the world’s most impressive navy and used them long before Christopher and Ferdinand went sailing

  3. I like that you mentioned how widespread the American presence is in the Pacific. It’s EXACTLY what keeps me from supporting the taking of Pågan. As you state, there are bases in Hawaii, Okinawa, Guam, and throughout this region. They haven’t failed to “protect” the Marianas. So I wonder: Without falling into paranoia, how is possible to justify taking Pågan? By making Pågan a military training site, we put ourselves in harms way. With more military presence, we actively create a target for attack. Why give the Chinese and N.Koreans a reason to bomb the CNMI?

W/o the military, what reason have America’s rivals to hurt the NMI? You can’t
tell me that China wants to annex Garapan because of Micro Beach (*AUTHOR’S NOTE* Mr. or Ms. Anderson you seem to love the sound of your own voice to the detriment of hearing anyone else speak on the issue, so I’m going to point out that the preceding statement is meant to be humorous).

In the case of eminent domain of Pågan, America does not have the Marianas’ best interest at heart. They want to make us “the tip of the spear” but we aren’t all warriors. Some of us are manamko’, some of us are hoben, some of us have absolutely no intention of seeing war in our lives. War is terrible. And yet, war is
precisely what America threatens to bring to our shores with its aggression.
That means our manamko’, our hoben, our civilians being placed in harms way so people in the States can sleep well at night. It is truly the raw end of the
deal, especially considering healthy residents of the NMI can fight for the military but can’t vote for president.

Also, your insistence that opponents of American aggression are “fat and sassy” only highlights your immaturity and inability to have open dialogue. Be mindful that there is nothing un-American about protesting the taking of land. I’m actually very proud of the way i Taotao Marianas has voiced their opinions on the matter. Generally, we’ve been civil and level headed, even if we have been passionate and angry—as we should be.

However, it IS absolutely undemocratic to lay back and let your sovereign take from you. We have a natural right to live free—America did not give me or anyone in the Marianas my freedom, The Creator did. Any taking of our land against our will is like rape, so excuse us for not wanting to be victimized. Further, don’t attempt to guilt trip us for defending ourselves.

A democracy should reflect its citizens’ will, and resoundingly, the will of i Taotao Marianas is to leave Pågan in its pristine condition so that its people can resettle there.

  4. I would urge those out there with an incomplete understanding of WHY there is a Liberation Day to read the attached file. It is just possible that the only reason that the islands remained inhabited and able to become the CNMI were the actions described therein. Be proud of cultural descent, but, be individually grateful that you even exist.
Many gave their all for this place, many more are willing to do it again if need be.

  5. Here’s some questions for the fat & sassy: why hasn’t China stolen (both) the SCS and shot down our airplanes over the ECS? Why hasn’t Red China launched an attack against the Marianas and the western coast of the USA? Answer: Because they are not warmongering imperialist conquerers like the USA

    1. Buenas,

Your answer to your questions above may be incorrect. The Chinese would not start a war, knowing that the United States of America is the most powerful country on earth.
