Outraged veteran

As a third generation U.S. Navy veteran I have always valued the tradition of Veterans Day. It is a day to reflect and thank those who have served our country with honor and valor.

Yesterday, I attended the laying of the wreath ceremony, to honor those that have sacrificed their lives for our freedoms. The day brought back many memories of my time served and the friends I’ve made and lost over the years.

As I looked around the crowd attending, I saw several veterans of various wars. Widows held their children who lost their fathers, young students involved in ROTC, and family members who have or had a relative in the military. It was very emotional for many of those in attendance.

The final part of the ceremony is perhaps the most emotional and occurs when those that have served (or currently serve) in the Armed Forces gather around to lay the wreath. Obviously, I take it very seriously.

Then, as I stood there in awe, a wave of anger rushed over me as I watched Heinz Hofschneider decide to use the ceremony as a campaign photo-op. This is incredibly disrespectful and I am outraged that someone who has never served would use this solemn day to campaign. I understand that it is appropriate for elected officials to participate but you, sir, are NOT an elected official. It takes some serious nerve for you to weasel your way in while vets look on from the crowd. You have lost my respect.

You have disgraced yourself and turned a day of remembrance into a self-serving photo-op. Our veterans and active duty members deserve an apology.

  1. It’s opened to the public, true? He dignified your service, if you have anything in your huge trail of accomplishments like a Congressional Medal of Honor? Common sense, pal!

      1. You should talk, John. Here’s a few of my favorite unintelligible gems of your own doing:

“Any signature song turned classic that would
ring in our ears for generations or is he just a vocalist of sort?”

“Prostituting traditional fishing ground for a
few silvers is a tale of the caliber of people in the legislature who now way
it’s okay to trash an area frequented by local fishermen.”

“Darn, what a wonderful duet that never sang in
        tune, but where was June?”

“It deletes politics and justices need not have
        to contend with retention.”

        “Contractual review needs stronger ocular
review to see if the “pasaluboñg” still goes on at the expense of
        ratepayers!”

A thesaurus and an grossly inflated ego are a very bad combination.

      6. Buenas Ioanes,

What spelling and syntax has to do with Mr. Camacho’s opinion above? It is sad that that we look forward to what you have to write each week on the opinion section and at the same time you attack Mr. Camacho’s writing ability.

        1. I agree, Jun. syntax and spelling? The HR camp has many, many of those who try to persuade people to vote for their candidate, but their writings make NO sense at all.

          1. Buenas Ioanes,

Thanks for the advice, but when you start trying to belittle others for their writing ability, it is sad to have someone from our island chain that thinks he/she is better than others. We may not be able to write proper English, but at least we can get our point across. If we want to conform with the English writing standard, we would be better off taking classes at the nearest secondary of higher institution. We don’t have to conform to your so call English standard and we are grateful to have the opportunities to be writing on this blog in order to improve our English writing ability.

The point we are trying to make with our comment above is to remind you that we are human beings and we are not perfect like you. Please try not to be judgmental on others writing ability on this blog, give us credit for trying to get our point across.

Have you heard of the technique free writing? We write what ever comes to our mind and we don’t need to conform with anyone;s standard.

            Have a nice day sir.

          2. You are not perfect Joanes, only a retired cell guard. You would know about ID, or excuse me Identification as that is what’s required in order to visit an inmate. This blog is not about being a perfect writer or grammar, its about posting your opinion, if hard to understand a person’s message based on their grammatical error, then its your brain that is the problem, if I were you I’d better worry about fixing your face then worrying about people’s spelling and grammar.

  2. I didn’t know you had to be an elected official or a military serviceman to attend the ceremony. Yes, Heinz probably took advantage of the opportunity. But can you blame him? What if he actually had good intentions and was sincere to show his appreciation on the few days that we honor our servicemen? Nobody ever complains when politicians show up to your auntie’s lisayu. It’s a sign of respect and endearment.

    1. Buenas craftsman25,

Blame who? Is he trying to win an election on the expense of our underprivileged brothers and sisters? Your candidate had contributed to the status quo.

  3. Thank you Mr. Morrell for bringing this to our (veterans) attention. As a Navy vet too I have learned over the years that people who have not served do not and will not understand. You don’t have to look far to see. Instead of a comment on your story, people are writing about others sentence structure. I am in no way excusing HH behavior, he just doesn’t get it. And yes, he does need to clarify his actions. With all the active military and vets living here, upsetting them could swing the field in the opposite direction. Go Navy
