The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. board of directors approved last Friday the CUC administration’s request to put out a request for proposal for the supply and delivery of lubricants and oils for CUC’s Saipan and Rota power plants. The RFP will be for a four-year contract that will be assessed on a year-to-year basis.

With the board approval in hand, CUC will soon put out an RFP. CUC executive director Gary P. Camacho said he will be keeping the board posted on the matter and will bring the contract to the board when it is prepared.

Per CUC bylaws, the CUC board must first approve a decision to put out an RFP before an RFP is advertised. When potential bidders are received, CUC’s bid selection committee will then identify the most responsive bidder, and then prepare a contract that will be signed by the board chair.

Also on the agenda last Friday was a request for the board’s approval to advertise an RFP for the installation of fiber optic cables. Board member Janice A. Tenorio stated for the record that she asked to be recused from voting and discussion on the matter, as she works for IT&E.

Camacho requested the board to move discussion on this to executive session, as discussion will be related to CUC’s network, its software, its customers’ information, and other sensitive information. A motion was made, seconded, and passed to move further discussion on the matter to executive session.

Last Friday’s board meeting was held at CUC’s main office’s conference room at the Joeten Dandan Building.
